Looking right at home surrounded by the super bedhangings and on top of the tavern table both described in other sections is a treen tidy. You can see the details and rich warm color in the second close up picture. A tidy is such a great way to display a really nice Betty Lamp. It measures 9" high x 7 3/4" in diameter.
Fabulous is a great word to use describing this pair of 9 3/4" high wedding band hogscrapers. First, you hardly ever see pairs and the size is magnificent. They are 19th Century and either English or German. There is a name on the tab but can't quite make it out. They are of nice weight and as you can see have great surface and no problems.
In well worn green paint, something you rarely find, this 7 1/4" rush /candleholder is right as rain. A perfect color for Christmas which is right around the corner. How about a gift to yourself?
Early with great surface describes this table top rush light probably English from the 18th Century. It is 20" high and 4 1/2" wide. Made of nice heavy stock it has one repair at the end of the stem to correct a wiggle created by age and use.
OK, you are right, this isn't my usual fare but this is such a neat make do candle holder I couldn't resist. The base, I believe , is the foot of a fairly early Continental chest or cupboard with the remains of a 19th Century brass candlestick in the top. As you can see, with a candle lit its a pretty cool thing. Its size is neat too as it measures 11" high x 17 1/2" wide. SOLD
This 18th Century Dutch or English sheet brass wall sconce is in great condition and has the best lion on the back. As you can see it is pretty wonderful lite. The lion is holding a banner dated 1722. I tried to look up the date to see if it was in anyway connected to some historical event but had no luck. I feel sure it symbolizes something. Perhaps, you will be able to tell me. The sconce is 10 1/2" high x 8" wide.
A well used wedding band hog scraper with as much character and patina as you could ever want. It is 7" high and has no problems or missing pieces. The tab has a name but so far I have not been able to read what it says. On the bottom is a very thick nut almost twice the size you normally see on a hogscraper.
There is just nothing nicer than a candle burning in a mirrored sconce. The light just shimmers and casts the most wonderful glow in a room. This sconce has great patina and a very interesting candle cup as you can see in the picture above. It is 9 1/4" high with all its mirror pieces. SOLD
The 15 1/2" high make-do candlestick was probably put together over a 100 years ago. It appears to be the remains of a very early brass stick and possibly a hat stand married for a very impressive piece. SOLD
The brass pan candleholder is most likely Dutch and 18th Century in very good condition. It retains its brass hanging hook so when not in use, the candleholder can be hung on the wall or mantle. Size is 8" wide x 5 1/2" deep x 2" high.
A similar example of this grease lamp is in Early Lighting by the Rush Light Club on page 35. This one is in very good condition and measures 4" wide x 4 1/2" high x 2" across.
Another really nice mirrored sconce that has a coat of red paint on the back and the candle cup. The mirror pieces are a little milky and somehow this reflects the candlelight in a very romantic way. The sconce appears to be 20th Century and measures 9" high x 7 3/4" diameter. Contact me at: | ||||||||||||||||||||||
